Milestone Ministries

Milestone Ministries

Baptism, Bible Sunday, First Communion, Confirmation.
Here at Calvary we believe faith is a journey and we celebrate milestones along that journey.  Recognizing that with every experience we share, we grow closer to the Lord and to each other.

Baptism

Where it all begins.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age..”      Matthew 28:19-20

Although we welcome all ages to the baptismal font, for Lutherans it is infants and children that are usually baptized.  Here they are washed in the water and marked with the cross of Christ.  The baptized are children of God, recognizing God’s claim on their lives and going forth into the world to serve in Christ’s name.

Together in mission; marked, claimed, gathered and sent, Calvary’s goal is to journey with others as we all learn to live out Jesus’ love. Please call the church office if you are interested in learning more about baptism.

Bible Sunday

The Word of the Lord

“So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.”  Romans 10:17

Every year, Calvary gives children in Kindergarten a Bible of their very own.  This Bible is a gift to use as a guide and encouragement as he or she continues to learn about the love and grace of God.  We encourage each child’s family and friends to write a special message in their child’s Bible or share a favorite Bible verse.  This creates an amazing way for important people in each child's life to share their faith journey.

First Communion

The Body and the Blood of Jesus.

“Then he took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And he did the same with the cup after supper, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”     Luke 22:19-20

We celebrate a child’s first Communion when they are in Third Grade.
On Saturday, before the milestone Eucharist, the children gather to bake communion bread which will be shared with the congregation on First Communion Sunday.

Confirmation

Becoming an adult in the eyes of the church.

"For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to give you a future with hope."    Jeremiah 29:11

Our program provides spiritual nurturing for young people in the 8th and 9th grades.  Students are encouraged to think theologically and to ask deep questions about the Bible, our Lutheran Christian faith and their lives as Christians in this world.  Classes take place on Sunday nights throughout the school year.  The program also includes worship attendance, participation in worship, fellowship, and service ministries.
